Cast Iron & Ductile Iron

Classification: Ferrous
Details

In cast iron and SG iron foundries, OES is the core instrument for melt shop control. It verifies the chemistry of each heat before pouring to ensure castings meet requirements for microstructure, strength and machinability. Small composition variations can trigger scrap, re-melting and downstream quality issues.

Foundries routinely test C, Si, Mn, Mg (ductile iron), P, S and trace residual elements. Fast analysis is essential, as melt decisions must be made while metal remains molten. Operators value simple operation and consistent results across shifts.

Foundries require OES to provide rapid, repeatable readings in harsh workshop conditions with fewer recalibrations.

— DF410: for melt control with strict composition monitoring

— DF660: reliable for routine foundry QA

— DF170/DF200: preferred for highest accuracy and precision
