Alloy and stainless steel manufacturers rely on Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) to control quality at every key production step. OES checks incoming raw materials, verifies material grades before machining or heat treatment, and performs final inspections before shipment. Accurate alloy identification is critical, especially for nickel and chromium-containing steels. Minor chemical composition errors may cause huge economic losses.

Chromium (Cr) gives stainless steel corrosion and oxidation resistance. Nickel (Ni) stabilizes the austenitic structure and improves toughness, formability and thermal shock resistance. Even small changes in Ni or Cr content can alter steel grades, resulting in production defects, customer rejects or lower material value.

Other elements also require strict control: molybdenum (Mo) for pitting resistance; manganese (Mn) and silicon (Si) for deoxidation and strength; plus trace carbon, sulphur and phosphorus.

Steel processors need an OES instrument to measure Ni and Cr precisely over wide concentration ranges, test many alloy and stainless steel grades on one machine, and produce consistent results within strict chemical limits. The system should also support new grades in the future without hardware constraints.

DF660 for more grade types, higher testing volume or future expansion plans,  provides stronger performance and long-term analytical reliability.
